via Chris Agorista on Diaspora:

"I first heard this song back in the mid nineties and kind of liked it but didn't pay much attention to the lyrics etc. I wasn't conscious enough at the time to realize I was one of the zombies. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when my daughter (now 14) had put the song on a mix for the car on usb thumbdrive and asked me what the lyrics meant. She asked "does it speak about all the people who don't know or care about what is happening with war etc. in the world?" I said "Yes, sweetheart, I think so." It brought tears to my eyes to see her have such realizations at her age."
