In 1946, the U.S. War Department produced a twelve-minute film about the atomic bomb. The footage was suppressed for decades before Barnouw received a letter from an environmentalist named Lucy Lemann alerting him to the existence of the material. Barnouw obtained the footage from the National Archives.<br />

The original footage was classified as "Secret" for decades and was only released to U.S. National Archives in 1967. This film compiles footage shot shortly after the bombing by both Japanese and American cameramen.
