Erica Chenoweth - Why Civil Resistance Works: Nonviolence in the Past and Future

between 1900 and 2006, campaigns of nonviolent resistance were more than twice as effective as violent insurgencies. Nonviolent resistance presents fewer obstacles to moral and physical involvement, information and education, and participator commitment, leading to enhanced resilience, a greater probability of tactical innovation, plus increased opportunity for civic disruption.
