Early days of mass movement against the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in California - from "Dark Circle" (1982) - Clip 5

An excerpt from the documentary film "Dark Circle" (1982), winner of the Grand Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and recipient of a national Emmy Award.

This segment is on popular resistance to the opening of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in California, and the anti-nuclear coalition called the Abalone Alliance. Many groups oppose nuclear power because running the reactors creates plutonium, about 500 lbs per year per reactor, that then adds to nuclear weapons proliferation concerns.
