There never was a good war or a bad peace. ~Ben Franklin
Huge protest against the Vietnam war
Vintage archival footage, from tv news coverage, with Hal Simms as tv news anchor or announcer, and Bob Schieffer reporting: The 1971 anti-war demonstration in Washington D.C. had between 200,000 and 500,000 peaceful demonstrators. It was very mainstream. Burns instead skewed his coverage in the tv series (episode 10) to emphasize the "May Day Tribe" and its willingness to destroy property.
Good speech from John Kerry, as a young man and member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW). Kerry's open-air speech was not covered in the Burns series, although Kerry's anti-war testimony to Congress features prominently in the documentary.
