The first "U.S. Out of Afghanistan!" anti-war demo in Tulsa

The first "U.S. Out of Afghanistan!" anti-war demo in Tulsa went very well, this Saturday, October 3rd 2009, at the corner of 41st & Yale. Of the 30% of so of the people in their cars responding to our message, I'd say 98% were in agreement with us. There was only 1 vociferous opponent to our point of view, who was in support of endless war for some reason unbeknown to us.

October 7th marks the end of the 8th year of the US occupation in Afghanistan, and the beginning of the 9th year of endless war there.

I encourage you to sign the petition below, petitioning the U.S. President directly. The online petition is here: http://citizenspeak.org/node/1601

Subject: No Good War: Afghanistan

Dear President Obama,

We, the undersigned, assert our Constitutional rights in demanding the United States Government cease its immoral and unlawful combat operations and military occupation of the nation of Afghanistan. The proud people of Afghanistan deserve the same right to self-determination we enjoy without foreign influence. U.S. troops need to be withdrawn from Afghan soil, no permanent military bases are to remain, and the bombing of Pakistan is to be immediately stopped.

Furthermore, we the undersigned, demand that along with the withdrawal of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, the U.S. government fund vigorous international efforts at assisting Afghans with the rebuilding of their decimated infrastructure. Also, we demand the U.S. government take a lead role in funding medical assistance needed to care for hundreds of thousands of Afghans seriously wounded by the immoral and unlawful war our nation launched in October 2001. The above aid should be designed to enrich the Afghan people, not private contractors.

In addition, we the undersigned, demand the unlawful U.S.-run prison at Bagram Air Base be closed immediately, and those who have been charged with a crime be brought into the Federal Court system for trials. We further demand that those who have never been charged with a crime are immediately released and given the opportunity to pursue legal recourse for their unlawful detentions without charge, in many cases for years in conditions violating existing treaties such as the Geneva Conventions and our own Constitution.

Our intention is to end this immoral, unlawful and costly war and occupation. We wish to help you, Mr. President, close a tragic chapter in our nation's history, restore its honor and improve our relationship with the global community.

Sincerely,
